Refinished Antique Factory cart

Here are some pictures of an antique factory cart that Dwayne and I refinished.  It has been cleaned up from the original but not completely.  You can see some of the original paint here and there.  I didn't want it to look perfect like the ones in the stores that sell for like $500 dollars.  It has a nice finish now and should last FOREVER!  I left the boards untouched underneath so if someone wanted to they could flip them over and do as they pleased with them.  The wood is beautiful  They sure used pretty wood, even on things like this back in the days when wood was used instead of plastic and wire.  Most people use them as a coffee table.
This cart is available for purchase if anyone is interested.  It's quite heavy so pick up is probably the best option unless you have a better idea and know how to do it.  I have more waiting to be refinished but just haven't gotten to them.  If you are interested in an unfinished one we can talk about that too.

My little things.

Here is a little oil can I glued some crystals to and just stuck a curled wire in to to hold a picture or whatever I want!  I liked it so much I made it my mission to buy oil cans for the rest of the fall antique shows.  Now I have to get busy and actually make some more of them.
Here is an embroidery that I did, really for my husband.  I had the pillowcases from a resale shop and since we like our guns I thought he would like this iron on pattern when I saw it.  It's kind of westerney for his taste but not for me.  I like Cowgirl Chic!

This is a real horseshoe.  I just cleaned it up, painted it and stuck some crystals on it.  I have lots more to do.  many different color schemes to choose from and lots of vintage jewelry to add to it.  Again, I just need to get busy.

Crocks? We've got crocks!!

I found these crocks on a lucky stop at a yard sale.  There were 10 of them in various sizes from 25 gallon to just kitchen size.  One of them is a preserving crock with a bail lid and top like on an old mason jar.  I liked them so much but was afraid to spend that much money. I went home and told Dwayne about them and he said you should have just bought all of them.  Well... that really did it.  I couldn't stop thinking about all of the things I could do with them.  Maybe even sell some of them if I don't need them all.  I mean, really, like I NEED one more crock, let alone 10 more!! For a hoarder like me they're like M&M's though.  Well, don't you know I was in my Tahoe the very next day right back to that nice lady's house and I bought every single one she had left.  She had sold a butter churn (darn it!) and another crock before I got back but oh well.  Needless to say she was very happy to see me!!  I also bought the saw in the picture because I have a terrible problem walking away from old tools.  I really shouldn't be allowed out without a guardian on my checkbook but man it's fun and it could be worse.  I could have just blown it all at the casino down the road from where I was LOL!   Well, I haven't even cleaned them all up yet.  They're too heavy to move around much on my own so I'll get to it. The woman I got them from said she was 70 years young and that they belonged to her grandfather who owned a butcher shop in Climax.  That puts them up there in age.  She said she figures around 100 yrs. anyway.  I don't know.  It's hard to research them.  Some of the marks are easily found and easy to learn about but some are impossible so far.  I need a book.   It's fun no matter what!  I know that there will at least be two tree bases for year round trees.  One for the basement and Dwayne's "man cave" with seasonal and/or outdoor theme or whatever ornaments on it.  The other will be upstairs and will be a twig tree or a feather tree decorated seasonally with primitive ornies and scented goodies.  That's the plan anyway.  We will see what happens.  I will sell some of them if anyone is interested.  Contact me-especially if you know anything about them, even if it's just to share info, it'd be great to learn more about them.  Who knew there was so much to learn about crocks and marks?  It's fascinating.  Enjoy!

Another rake project.

I've had this little rake for the longest time and couldn't decide what to do with it.  I had a thought to do something with some cinnamon twigs and burlap.  Then went with the jute and rusty tin shapes.  I am a sucker for moons, especially half moons.  It's so little I didn't want to do too much to it.

Another recent project.

I just got a "bright" idea to wrap this old rake I've had stashed away in a corner with some leaves and lights.  Then I just wound a homespun ribbon down through the wrapping.  I like how it turned out pretty well.  It's nicer in the evenings when it's getting darker sooner now.

This is an old door knob and a pretty yellow door plate with a brass handle that I found and Dwayne mounted it on an old piece of barn wood from our old barn!  It's just one of the things we like to repurpose.
These are the two cutting boards and the little ladder that I bought at the primitives show in Angola IN.

Well, I've gone and done it!!

Well my friends, I've taken the leap and started a blog.  My friend Mary has been urging me to for some time now and I just didn't think I had anything interesting enough to say that the world at large wanted to hear.  I probably don't but the curiosity has finally overtaken my reluctance and so here we are.  I will put some pictures on here of projects as they come along and new goodies I get from all my treasure hunts.  November 13, 2010 was the Pig-In-A-Poke Primitives show.   This year it was in Angola, IN.  Normally it is in Nashville, MI.  I got a few things.  Two old cutting boards and a cute little handcrafted ladder to hang goodies from.  What goodies I don't know yet but that's the fun part!  My friend Melanie went with me and it was fun to introduce her to the world of Prim!  It gave me the urge to make things......  The season is right for it too.  So many ideas and so little time.  Please let me know what you are making these days.
